the terrific third - stall no. 3
Saturday, 12 December 2020 (published day after)
Phew! Stall Number Three was an experience we won't forget in a hurry! So many aspects of this stall made the day a memorable one. This time, we were part of the Port Kennedy Twilight Festival - a whole new experience for us as our previous two stalls had been in the daytime only. The market opened a little before 5pm and ended promptly at 8pm. Those four hours were a whirlwind (literally, since it was so windy and everything blew everywhere) of good fun and new challenges.
We would say that the two most important things we took away from this stall are:
- Don't underestimate the wind! We had more than a few struggles with this powerful force of nature as we set up and packed down. Even while manning the stall as the market progressed proved to be a challenge as everything was lightweight, increasing their tendency to be blown about. We learnt to adapt, however, and made the necessary adjustments to the arrangement and layout of our products in order to counter the wind.
- Cash and card go hand in hand! This was our first market stall using our cute new Square Reader that allows for cashless payment. We discovered that a good number of our customers only had their credit cards on them and had totally zero cash, so the Square came in super helpful and helped us maximise our sales. If we had had only a cash option most of our visitors would've gone away disappointed and empty-handed!
All in all, we found the Twilight Festival to be a wonderful affair and quite an enriching experience - we've learnt a lot about adapting on the spot and improvising to fit our situation.
Thank you too to all our fantastic patrons and supporters who came by.
Stall No. Three, in spite of its hurdles, can be pronounced an undoubted success!
