rey - star wars series #1
I'm preee-ty late to join the crowd, but I've just finished all the Star Wars movies!
And lost no time in grabbing my hook alight with a new inspiration...
So here's the first of the lot! Say hi to Rey! She was really fun to make and super easy for beginners. I only used one working stitch (single crochet) along with a few chains and slip stitches at intervals. My favourite bit was her little bag. She looks so cute from the front, as if she is off to save the galaxy!
Below is the side view (notice her huuuuge buns, I didn't expect they would be that large!):
Here's the link to the pattern I used if anyone feels like they need a Rey for themselves!

Rey took about a week to make (with pauses and stop-starts) so this wasn't too bad! I loved the details included in this pattern, like her tiny strands of hair at the sides (super easy and fast to make) and the little wristcuffs (which I chose to skip). I think the use of slightly different shades of brown for the shoes and hair really makes a difference in the final product. It looks more professional if you experiment with using a wider range of colours. Playing around with the shades, textures and weights of different yarns is something I really love doing! The brown yarn I used for Rey's shoes is worsted but the rest of her is made using light worsted yarn. The contrasting textures feel fabulous when you pick her up. Sadly, I ran out of the worsted brown yarn, looks like I have to scoot around to find some more.
I also finally found a random pair of safety eyes left over from another soft toy project, which ended up taking a huge weight off my shoulders. And another bonus: my long-awaited shipment of safety eyes came just in time! No more embroidering with black yarn!
This is just the beginning of my newest adventure: a Star Wars amigurumi collection which I hope will grow to include everyone's favourite character, be it Vader or Chewie (or maybe even a Porg!). I'll be hard at work whipping up the next few so look out for more news!
