Speciality Amigurumi Round 1!
Dear friends,
I'm excited to share with you my new Speciality Amigurumi challenge!
1) You guys send me requests for speciality characters to be turned into amigurumi.
2) I pick 2-3 of these and turn them into a little crochet doll!
Here are some rules around speciality characters you can suggest:
1) They can come from pop culture or be someone famous (eg, Katniss from the Hunger Games or Beth from The Queen's Gambit)
2) OR they can be a special request character (ie. the mermaid I made below!). You have to provide a detailed description of what colours you'd like, the type of doll, etc. Email me at littlespools.byash@gmail.com for more info if you're considering this option.
Of the 3 dolls for each round, I'll pick 1 or 2 to be put up for sale, and the last one will go to a lucky customer for FREE!
For round 1 (pictured below) I tested out this challenge with a couple of friends and family, and finally I decided on two dolls:
Newt from the Maze Runner series (my ❤), and
A customised baby mermaid for a special friend's birthday!
(it was a surprise so she didn't even know she was gonna get it - until she did!!)
Here's Newt in all his rugged, big boy glory! (#TBSfanhere)
(If you haven't watched the movies or read the series, I'd highly recommend them)
I made Newt using Sweet Softies' Baby Bean doll base and improvised on his clothing and accessories. He has a cute sling bag (that I freestyled, hehe) and a crossbody strap to hold his "whacking" stick - he whacks people with it - which was made out of a little popstick.
Newt took about 2-3 hours to work up, so relatively quick! (I'm keeping him for my collection, but may or may not do another version of him for sale soon :p)
I was working on this mermaid on the way to and from one of my stalls (and some spare time while traffic at the market was slow). Here's a quick snapshot taken just after she was finished - on the way back from the stall! She was living quite a classy life, travelling in a swag car through city/foreshore roads!
This mermaid was made using Sweet Softies' "Coral the Mermaid" pattern, which is an AMAZING pattern and definitely one of my favourites! It's so versatile and easy to customise - I've made an Ariel version of this pattern which sells out super quickly to Disney fans :)
This mermaid is an example of a customised character you can request for this challenge. I would like to try and make as many different dolls as possible, and you can even buy the doll you suggested! (Unless, of course, I pick you as a lucky winner to receive it for FREE!)
What is the aim of this challenge, then?
Through this challenge, I want to:
1) Get to know what you'd like to see as part of our amigurumi range.
2) Try out new ideas, improvise and freestyle, because that's how you improve your crochet skills!
3) Have fun creating little characters we all know and love, or create new ones out of the craziest colour combinations and accessories!
How do you suggest an idea?
Easy-peasy! Drop me an email at littlespools.byash@gmail.com, or:
Text me on Instagram (@littlespools.byash).
I can't waaaaiiiittt to hear all your ideas! Thank you to everyone who contributed for Round 1!
Remember, your idea, even if it wasn't picked for a specific round, could show up in future rounds/challenges!
Happy days everyone :)
Ashlyne
Hi, your blog looks so cute! I really enjoyed reading the posts about your stalls. Will you be posting more about some of your recent stalls and any more coming up? I would love to read more about the st britgits one. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jaime, thank you for your kind words! As of my last stall updates (stall #11), I have not made any posts specificially for each stall and I probably won't be keeping a regular post-per-stall schedule moving forward.
DeleteThis is mainly because it's pretty time consuming for me to write a nice detailed post for every single stall we're doing - plus the fact that we've amped up how many we're holding per month so it just becomes a hassle (and repetitive) to recount each and every one of them. However, I will still post if something interesting happens at one of them or if we hold a special stall!
(PS: You can still find my regular stall posts on my Instagram page because that's where I update on them!)
Hope this helps! I will be writing an official post explaining all this quite soon (I'm working on it right now) so stay tuned!!
