I tested a Sweet Softies pattern...here's my review!

Hey everyone, happy 1st March 🤪 School has started (hence the long break between this post and my last one) but that doesn't mean crocheting is over and done with!  It's also MARCH! Which means it's now autumn (the best of all seasons) and will soon be my birthday in just over 2 months' time.  I'm celebrating 'pinch-punch-first day of the month" style with this special post! (I'm also annoyed that I had barely any time to post in February, so this is a very special post indeed) Some of you will remember that I've had to stop holding market stalls for the time being due to a new outbreak of COVID in the community. Scary, but it leaves me with more time to focus on exploring more new amigurumi projects AND check off a few things from my crafting need-to-do list! So it's with great excitement that I'm sharing this news with you...I recently had the amazing opportunity to be part of Sweet Softies' testing team for her newest amigurumi patte...

Blog Post Update (follow up!)

Image
Hey everyone!  This is a quick update that I forgot to include my earlier post announcing a few new changes to my blog. For reference you can still find my  Life Update 2021  post (which was my first post after being inactive from July-November 2021) and subsequently the  Blog Update  I posted later that month to explain what's the new function of this blog. You can read more about that in that article!  If you've read it already, you'll remember that I announced a couple of changes to how my posts on this blog are going to be structured and what I'll be mainly focusing on. I forgot to include a very important part but as I've already explained the gist of it in that post I'mma make this update short and sweet!  As of November 2021 onwards, all new material added to the blog will be under version 2.0 of the Little Spools blog. Which means that any post dated before November 2, 2021 (to be exact) is old blog material (Dec 2020 - July 2021) . This d...

Summer Wrapup - All my holiday makes!

Image
Hey everyone,  Happy Australia Day! 😝 If you've been keeping up with my blog recently, you'll remember me mentioning that I'm currently nearing the end of summer break (it's been a wonderful 2 months), which calls for a post to wrap up all the new creations I've made during this holiday. These last seven weeks have been full of the beach, camping and crochet! Plus, because we've had to shut down stalls for now because of COVID, I've had some extra time on my hands to try out some more complicated creations.  I've already announced 3 of these projects in previous posts: my  scarf project (which doubled as a yarn review) and two dolls, Alice in Wonderland and Belle (which you can read about in this  post ). However, I'm excited to share that I've got more to add to the list!  Remember how I hinted in my last post that I wasn't done with my princess dolls? Well, wait no longer - they're here!  This collection of photos (no particular order...

Belles of the Ball! - Special Introduction

Image
Dear friends,  I'm back with more adorable cuteness, this time in a shorter post than last time round as there are a couple of things I'm scrambling to get done while also publishing this. (The holidays are drawing to a close, so I'm maximising the limited time I have until school starts again!)  On a side note, I've already received several suggestions for yarns I should review next. I'm already shopping around for them and I can't wait to try them all out! I thought I'd begin the amigurumi chapter of 2022 with two gorgeous beauties I whipped up in the holidays. I was quite busy in the weeks leading up to Christmas till just about last week, when I decided to take a short break from crochet/sewing. Every crocheter knows: if you don't take some time for yourself in between bursts of intense crafting, you can lose that drive and motivation real quick!  Anyway, this is a slightly delayed post since these two dolls have been sitting in my basket for a good ...

Yarn Review: Caron Baby Cakes by Yarninspirations

Hey guys! I hope you had a fantastic New Year and am enjoying 2022 so far!  I haven't written down any resolutions as of yet.. and we're already more than halfway through January (oops). (I tend to write them down but forget about them after a few weeks, so I guess that's not very helpful either). What goals have you made for this year? I've actually got some cool crafting goals in mind for this year, but bearing in mind the increased school load in year 10, I might not get to do them all :(. We'll see how we go, and anything that I finish will be up here on the blog for you guys to read about it!  Anyway, now that my unofficial New Year's break from posting has finished, I've decided to kick off 2022 with ANOTHER yarn review!!!!!!! I ended last year with a post about Moda Vera's Mega Tweed yarn on Christmas Day - you can read all about that super experience  here!!! After that instance, I realised that I had really enjoyed experimenting with a yarn I h...

Yarn Review: Mega Tweed by Moda Vera!

Hey guys! Firstly, Merry Christmas and have a fantastic New Year!  2021 has passed by sooo quickly with many new discoveries and adventures along the way, and we've hit our 20th stall mark successfully too so there's lots of things to celebrate as 2022 nears. But for now, let's talk about right now! Right now, I'm sitting at my dining table wearing my comfy reindeer shorts (you guessed it, I made them), blasting the AC in dire hopes of recreating the North Pole. Not much chance of that happening anytime soon since we're stuck in 44 degree weather! Down under = in the furnace! I just (literally 20 minutes ago) completed a sweet freehand project - my first household crochet DIY! I started it last night fresh off my trip to Esperance (bye bye beautiful weather and stunning beaches) in a burst of inspiration after finding two things: 1) my endless, ever-growing pile of WIPs (*sighs*) 2) a skein-and-a-half of jumbo "tweedy-style" acrylic yarn by Moda Vera - lef...

Little Spools turns 2 years old!

Image
Happy birthday Little Spools!!!❤❤❤ Needless to say, the 7th of December is a really special day for me, and since I missed this date last year, this post will make up for that overlook!  Little Spools turns 2 today!  That's right, it's been TWO WHOLE YEARS  since Little Spools was born. We've been swept up in a whirlwind of stalls, sales, and more since then. It has been a wonderful period of learning marketplace tips and tricks, exploring new avenues of creativity, and sharing wonderful creations with the communities around us.  For me, 2019-2021 was an amazing ride, but not just from stitching simple hems to whipping up everything under the sun with my trusty sewing machine Jemima (named so because she's a Janome and I wanted her to be a girl). It was also significant because in mid 2020 I picked up my first crochet hook, opened an instruction booklet that came with a craft kit, and plunged into the beautiful world of crochet and amigurumi!  So, in this birthd...

BLOG UPDATE: What's happening with my stall posts, and more!

Read on to learn about what's going to happen moving forward with this blog!  Hi everyone!  This is a post that has been in the works for a while now - it's been sitting on my "drafts" page for the better part of two months. But hooray, it's finally done! All because I decided to finish it up as part of writing a fuller response to several questions I've received about my stall posts. (PS: I snuck in time from exam study and countless pages of notes to write this - so I really truly do hope it helps you all!)    Ever since I started this blog, I've been making posts for each of my stalls -  this  was my very first one, and I still look back on it with happy thoughts! I've absolutely loved sharing my experience for each stall I've done so far, but once I got beyond the first 10 or so, my entries started to get a little repetitive.  Additionally, I've started posting on Instagram more frequently about my stalls and I've found that to be easie...
